Frequently Asked Questions about Web Services

  1. What exactly is a Content Management System?

A Content Management System (CMS) in the context of an Internet Website is a highly robust mechanism of separating the design of a website from the actual content.  This allows Killion Technology Solutions to provide a state of the art website but turn over the management of what is displayed on the website (i.e. stories, pictures, ads, etc...) to the knower of the content (usually a business owner).

  2. CMS sounds complicated, is it expensive?

CMS is very complicated from the back-end perspective - otherwise it would have completely replaced HTML websites already.  This is where Killion Technology Solutions is going to be your best friend; we have build process and standarization around the highly scalable Joomla open-source CMS that allows us to deploy Content Management websites for a fraction of the cost of other companies.

You (the business owner / content manager), have a very simple interface in which to use to update the content on your website.  CMS is turning internet websites into easy to manage, dynamic products instead of the stale HTML websites of the 90's.

  3. With a CMS site, what skills do I need to update my website?

If you can operate Microsoft Word™  then you can update content on your website.  More complex functions such as uploading pictures require the understanding of files and folders on a computer (My Computer), but even that is very simple and step-by-step processes are provided for all functions.

All KTS CMS sites come with access to our video tutorial website so that you can review ways to do simple tasks such as creating an article to more complex tasks as elevating credentials of users on your website so they can write to a blog.

  4. With a CMS site, what software do I need to update my website?

Only a web browser, it is that simple.  As I type this FAQ article for the Killion Technology Solutions website the only software I have open in Firefox (which spell checks for me) but Microsoft Internet Explorer will do fine as well.  No expensive software to purchase.

  5. Do you support HTML websites anymore?

Yes, but in a limited capacity.  We usually support HTML only sites during a transition period during building out of a much more capable content management site.  In most cases the conversion to a content management site will return full investment in less than 1 year even for a small business with little internet interaction.
